Hope springs eternal for Detroit Lions fans. A few years ago we had that 2-14 season and that win in week thirteen was like what I imagine winning a superbowl would be like. After that season I thought it couldn't get any worse, but I was terribly wrong as we all know and are reminded of constantly. Who would have thought Wayne Fontes would be the best coach the Lions had in the last 50 or so years? I'm sure I'm not the only one that thought things would get better with Ross, then Mariucci, then Marinelli (I don't think anyone impressed by Mornhinweg at any point). Perhaps we should stay away from anyone with an "M" in their name and that goes double for for the double "M's", like Matt Millen and Marty Mornhinweg ( I'm looking at you Martin Mayhew!).
Side note: There was one exception to the "M" rule, that being the winningest coach since Buddy Parker (The overseer of the 1950's Detroit Lions) and that would be Gary Moeller he had a staggering winning percentage of .571! albeit it was only over the course of 7 games, but still a notable exception. Hopefully Mayhew can reproduce those slightly above average results in a front office setting.
